Melodi: The Hypoallergenic Baby Formula Closer to Breast Milk Than Ever
A new company is tackling the challenges of infant nutrition with a groundbreaking formula. Harmony Baby Nutrition, founded by pharmacist Del Alfonso, plans to launch Melodi—a hypoallergenic baby formula far closer to human breast milk than existing options. The product aims to provide a safer, sterile alternative for parents struggling with cow’s milk allergies in their children.
Del Alfonso, a pharmacist and father of a child with formula allergies, created Harmony Baby Nutrition to address gaps in the market. Many infants develop allergic reactions to cow’s milk-based formulas, leaving families with limited choices. Traditional options also carry contamination risks and rely too heavily on animal-derived ingredients.
The company’s first product, Melodi, uses lactose and human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), making it nearly 50% similar to human breast milk. This marks a major leap forward, as most conventional formulas are less than 3% similar. Melodi is designed to be safe, sterile, and ready to use without preparation.
To support its mission, Harmony Baby Nutrition will open a research and development centre in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The facility will focus on advancing molecular nutrition for future hypoallergenic formulas. The company’s debut product, Melodi, is scheduled to enter the U.S. market in 2026.
Melodi offers parents a new solution for infants with cow’s milk allergies. Its composition closely mimics breast milk, reducing reliance on traditional formulas. With a dedicated R&D centre in Brazil, Harmony Baby Nutrition is set to expand its innovations in infant nutrition.
