Nominations are now open for the 2024 Thuringian Research Prize. The award recognises outstanding work across all academic fields, from humanities to engineering. Researchers have until May 4 to submit their entries by email or post.

The prize was first established in 1995 and has since honoured over 240 researchers and teams. It offers a total of €50,000, split between two categories: Basic Research and Applied Research.

Last year's winners included a team from the Max Planck Institute in Jena. Their AI-driven models of global carbon and water cycles earned top recognition. Another award went to Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for a project on regional circular economy solutions. Researchers at Jena University Hospital also received praise for breakthroughs in leukemia treatment.

The winners will be announced at an official ceremony on October 27.

The Thuringian Research Prize remains one of the region's most prestigious scientific honours. This year's edition continues its tradition of supporting innovation across diverse fields. Successful nominees will join a long list of past recipients who have contributed to research excellence in Thuringia.
