'STOP Stroke!' Campaign Teaches Life-Saving Prevention in Yakutia
An awareness campaign called 'STOP Stroke!' took place at the School of the Third Age on October 23. Tatiana Nikolaeva, chief neurologist for Yakutia's Ministry of Health, led the event to educate attendees about stroke prevention and recognition. The initiative is part of a week of activities leading up to World Stroke Day on October 29. During the campaign, participants learned about the nature of strokes, their risk factors, and the different types that exist. Experts stressed the importance of spotting early symptoms and following correct first aid procedures. They also clarified actions to avoid when a stroke occurs.
The lectures covered topics such as 'Stroke: What You Need to Know' and 'The Mysteries of Memory'. Attendees were informed that most strokes can be prevented with proactive measures, including regular medical check-ups and a healthy lifestyle. Routine screenings can detect early warning signs like hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity, which contribute to stroke risk.
Healthy habits were highlighted as key to reducing stroke risk and improving memory. These include regular exercise, balanced nutrition, sufficient rest, social engagement, and cognitive stimulation. Experts also warned that sedentary behaviour, poor diet, alcohol, and smoking significantly increase the likelihood of stroke. The 'STOP Stroke!' campaign aims to raise awareness about the risks and prevention of stroke. The week-long events coincide with World Stroke Day, focusing on education and timely treatment. Stroke remains one of the most dangerous cerebrovascular diseases, with severe impacts on health and quality of life.
