An authorisation is being sought for L-valine as a nutritional additive for all animal species. The feed additive is produced through fermentation with Corynebacterium glutamicum CGMCC 18932 and has a minimum purity of 98.5%. It is intended for use in premixtures, feedingstuffs, or drinking water. The European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) has assessed the methods for quantifying valine in various matrices. It recommends the ring-trial validated EU method based on IEC-VIS for analysis in all matrices, including the feed additive, premixtures, feedingstuffs, and water. The Applicant demonstrated the method’s applicability across these matrices.

For feedingstuffs, the EURL specifically endorses the EU method for total valine quantification, with an RSDr of 1.7 to 3.8% and an RSDR of 8.8 to 16.1%. For water, it suggests the VDLUFA official method (4.11.6) or an equivalent IEC-VIS/FLD approach. No further testing or validation of these methods is deemed necessary. The EURL’s recommendations provide a clear analytical framework for L-valine quantification. The proposed methods cover all relevant matrices, ensuring consistent and reliable measurements. The authorisation, if granted, would apply to L-valine used in animal nutrition across all species.
