Primorye revives 17 abandoned landmarks in bold restoration push

A major restoration project is underway in Primorye Territory. It targets 17 historic landmarks, many of which have been abandoned for decades. The initiative aims to bring these sites back into active urban use. The project covers a wide range of structures. These include pre-revolutionary estates, military installations, libraries, theatres, and industrial buildings. They span from the pre-revolutionary era to the first public institutions of the Russian Far East.

Each landmark holds a unique connection to the region’s past. Their histories involve railways, medicine, city development, merchant dynasties, military garrisons, and early public services. The buildings are located across Vladivostok, Ussuriysk, and the Khasansky District.

The effort is part of an investor support programme. Its goal is to fund renovations that adapt these sites for modern purposes. Once restored, they could become cultural hubs, public spaces, hotels, or educational centres. The renovation will preserve the landmarks’ historical value. It will also make them functional parts of daily life again. The project expects to transform long-neglected buildings into active community assets.
