Thane cracks down on POSH Act violations to protect women at work
The Thane district administration has launched a special campaign to enforce the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act. The initiative aims to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for women across the district. Under the campaign, all government offices, private establishments, schools, colleges, hospitals, malls, hotels, and factories with 10 or more employees must form an Internal Committee (IC) as mandated by the POSH Act. This requirement applies to every eligible organisation without exception.
A team of officials will carry out thorough inspections to verify compliance. Their checks will cover the composition of the IC, the appointment of external members, submission of annual reports, awareness initiatives, employee training, and registration on the SHe-Box portal. Thane District Women and Child Development Officer Namita Shinde has stressed that adherence to the POSH Act is a legal duty for all qualifying establishments.
Organisations found non-compliant or in violation of the Act will face strict penalties. The campaign’s goal is to strengthen the implementation of the law and protect women from workplace harassment. The inspections will confirm whether establishments have met all legal requirements. Any failure to comply will result in punitive measures. The drive seeks to uphold the rights of women and ensure their safety at work.
