Russia's First Standardized App Detects Child Speech Disorders Faster

Researchers at HSE have created Russia’s first standardised mobile app for diagnosing phonological processing disorders in children. The tool is designed to support speech therapists, neuropsychologists, and educators in identifying issues like dyslexia and dysgraphia with greater speed and accuracy. The app includes seven tasks of varying difficulty. These assess a child’s ability to distinguish sounds in minimal contexts, retain auditory information, and perform phonemic analysis. All tasks are voice-recorded by a professional narrator to ensure consistency.

Results are automatically compared against age-specific norms. The system also records children’s responses, allowing professionals to track progress over time. This removes reliance on the examiner’s pronunciation and ensures objective assessments.

The tests have been validated through multiple studies, proving their reliability and effectiveness. Developed in collaboration with leading Russian neuropsychologists, the app incorporates global best practices. It not only aids in diagnosis but also helps create tailored, personalised correction programmes. The app is now available for use by specialists. It provides a standardised, efficient way to detect phonological disorders in children. Early and accurate diagnosis can lead to more effective interventions for conditions like dyslexia and dysgraphia.
