Veteran's Life-Changing Surgery Repairs Massive Postwar Hernia After Years of Pain

A 57-year-old veteran from Khorolsky District has undergone complex surgery at Primorsky Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1. The man, a former special military operation serviceman, suffered severe shrapnel wounds to his abdomen during his service, leading to his medical discharge. The patient arrived with a large postoperative hernia, featuring a 13 cm defect in his abdominal wall. This resulted from five prior surgeries and caused nearly a third of his abdominal organs to protrude outside the cavity. The condition was further complicated by extensive adhesions and tissue changes from previous operations.

Surgeons performed a TAR (transversus abdominis release) reconstruction to repair the abdominal wall. During the procedure, they separated the adhesions and repositioned the displaced organs back into the abdominal cavity. The operation addressed the complex damage caused by his earlier injuries and surgeries. The man was discharged home on the 12th day after surgery with no signs of complications. His recovery continued rapidly under outpatient supervision. The procedure successfully corrected the hernia and restored the integrity of his abdominal wall.
