Kazakhstan's Nutristeppe App Aims to Revolutionize National Eating Habits

Kazakhstani researchers have launched a new app called Nutristeppe to improve eating habits across the country. The platform offers personalised meal plans and tools to track nutrition, aiming to tackle diet-related chronic diseases. The Nutristeppe app provides users with tailored meal suggestions based on their personal data and health goals. It includes a built-in food diary, a grocery list feature, and daily recipes rated for nutritional value on a five-point scale. The app’s database contains around 120,000 standardised food items, each with detailed nutritional information.

Almaz Sharman, president of Kazakhstan’s Academy of Preventive Medicine, outlined the app’s functions. The initiative addresses a critical issue: poor diet contributes to 60% of chronic diseases, according to the World Health Organization. Alongside the app, a video course called Healthy Eating has been introduced, based on the book Healthy Nutrition and Nutristeppe Technology. Damir Kobzhasarov, executive director of the National Center for Public Health, announced the course as part of the wider effort. The new app and video course aim to encourage healthier eating across Kazakhstan. By offering personalised guidance and comprehensive nutritional data, the tools provide practical support for better dietary choices. The platform is now available to users seeking to improve their long-term health.
