Nizhny Novgorod's Youth Day 2026 merges science, art, and robotics in record turnout

Over 15,000 people attended events during Youth Day 2026 in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast as part of the Science in Every Step project. The programme showcased scientific achievements through theatre, music, and interactive lectures. Alexandrovsky Garden served as the main venue for the celebrations. The Seashell stage in Alexandrovsky Garden hosted the premiere of Presentiment, a play written by Anastasia Yermolova. Directed by Mikhail Meshcheryakov and produced by the Center for Theatrical Mastery, it featured actors Maxim Beloshanin and Yekaterina Druzhkova performing alongside a collaborative robot from VR Robotics.

A music and dance show called Evolution of Sound traced the history of music from folk to electronic genres, with scientific explanations provided throughout. The same stage also staged a science-themed stand-up performance, with science communicator Alexey Yegorov and comedian Pavel Dedishchev entertaining the audience.

Nearby, the Engineering Pavilion offered a VR zone and yoga sessions combined with lectures from young researchers. These were delivered by students from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, Privolzhsky Research Medical University, and Lobachevsky University. Interactive talks took place at the Mayak Academy as well.

The initiative was organised by the regional government with support from Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It formed part of the Decade of Science and Technology, a national effort running from 2022 to 2031 to promote research and development. Svetlana Anufrieva, Minister of Youth Policy for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, highlighted the programme’s success in presenting science in an accessible and engaging way. The project brought together art, technology, and education to reach a wide audience. All events were designed to align with the broader goals of the Decade of Science and Technology.
