Iloilo City battles measles-rubella surge with urgent vaccination drive

Iloilo City has recorded a rise in measles-rubella cases, with 72 suspected cases in 2025 compared to 68 in 2024. As of Morbidity Week No. 24 in 2026, the city has logged 11 measles cases, including six suspected and five confirmed. Health authorities are now urging parents to take action. Health officials have noted a drop in children receiving full immunisation. Vaccine hesitancy and lack of awareness among parents and guardians are key reasons for this trend. To address the issue, the City Health Office (CHO) is preparing for a Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunization Activity in August.

The campaign will target children aged six to 59 months across Iloilo City. The CHO is updating its list of eligible children and conducting house-to-house visits to boost participation. The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) and CHO are working together to prevent outbreaks and protect communities.
