Yakutsk hosts free trial of Steplife's cutting-edge bionic knee prosthetic
Steplife and Salyut-Orto have begun a free trial of the Steplife B5 bionic knee unit in Yakutsk. The launch took place on 5 June 2026. The event marks the start of a wider testing programme across the Far East. The trial will assess the latest bionic knee module, equipped with rotational hydraulics and microprocessor control. Participants will test its performance on flat ground, slopes, stairs, and during physical activities. Each person will use the prosthetic for two weeks, evaluating its reliability, functionality, and daily comfort.
The Yakutsk trial is part of a regional tour covering Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Chita, Blagoveshchensk, and Yakutsk. The Erel Rehabilitation and Prosthetics Center will supervise the local tests. Interested individuals can register for the programme online.
This initiative is linked to Steplife’s grant-funded project, 'Bionic Leg Prosthetics with Microprocessor Control (Steplife B7) under R&D in the Republic of Buryatia'. CEO Ivan Khudyakov confirmed the trial will span the entire Far East, from Kamchatka to Chita. The trial will run for two weeks per participant. It aims to gather data on the prosthetic’s real-world performance. The findings will support the development of future bionic leg systems.
