Jesús Misael's courageous journey to embracing his true identity
Jesús Misael knew from a young age that his body did not reflect who he was. He always saw himself more as a boy, and this disconnect shaped much of his early life. His journey to understanding his identity took time and involved both personal and external challenges. During adolescence, he prayed for his body to change but soon realised it would not happen without intervention. The internet provided some comfort, letting him connect with others who shared similar experiences, though the process remained slow and isolating.
When his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he sought psychological support. This period helped him understand his identity more clearly. About a month before her death, he came out to her, and she encouraged him to seek happiness.
On October 8, 2012, he began hormone therapy, which brought physical changes like a deeper voice and facial hair. In 2018, he legally changed his name. Sharing his story publicly later revealed to him just how many other trans men existed, far more than he had once imagined.
Telling his relatives about his transition proved difficult. Some family members distanced themselves, though he has since maintained a stable relationship with those closest to him. Jesús Misael’s path included both personal growth and external support. His transition involved medical, legal, and emotional steps, each marking progress in aligning his life with his identity. Today, he continues to live openly, with the backing of his family.
