Vladivostok launches beach patrols to prevent child drownings this summer

Authorities in Vladivostok have started preventive patrols on beaches and waterfronts to improve water safety. The first operation took place at Yubileiny Beach, with police and public safety specialists monitoring the area. Their focus is on unsupervised children and teenagers near water bodies. The patrols aim to remind residents and visitors of water safety rules. Leaflets with guidelines for safe behaviour and emergency contact numbers are being handed out. Special attention is given to young people at recreational areas without adult supervision.

Each summer, around ten children drown in Primorsky Krai. This year, the first incident occurred on May 10 in Spassk-Dalny. More recently, a five-year-old child drowned in Nakhodka after entering a pond alone. Swimming in unauthorised areas remains a serious risk.

Vladivostok’s official swimming season has not yet begun. Despite this, city services have taken early action to prevent accidents. The patrols and awareness efforts are part of ongoing measures to reduce drowning incidents. Authorities hope these steps will keep children and families safer near water. The campaign continues as summer approaches.
