Palghar launches bold healthcare reforms for mothers and children in tribal areas

Palghar district has announced a series of new healthcare initiatives to improve services for mothers and children. The measures focus on remote and tribal areas, aiming to strengthen medical support and infrastructure. The district administration will upgrade public health facilities and boost emergency medical response. Medical officers have been directed to stay at their assigned Primary Health Centres and Rural Hospitals to ensure round-the-clock service availability.

A major screening drive for Sickle Cell Disease will cover all residents aged 0-40. The Anaemia-Free Campaign will also introduce targeted interventions for severe anaemia cases. Maternal and Child Control Rooms have been set up at district, taluka, and PHC levels to track pregnant women and newborns closely.

Every maternal death in Palghar will now undergo a detailed review to identify systemic weaknesses and improve referral systems. To expand coverage, Ayushman Bharat registration camps will run alongside Revenue Department camps to ensure all eligible beneficiaries are enrolled.

GPS tracking will monitor 108 and 102 ambulance services in remote talukas, improving response times and accountability. Plans are also underway to introduce advanced TB NAAT diagnostic machines and digital X-ray units. Healthcare institutions will receive support to meet National Quality Assurance Standards certification.

Women’s Self-Help Groups will prepare nutritious supplementary food for children with Severe or Moderate Acute Malnutrition in vulnerable areas. In May 2026, several new hospitals were empanelled under government schemes, increasing access to quality care for residents. These steps aim to enhance healthcare delivery across Palghar, particularly for marginalised communities. The district expects better monitoring, faster emergency response, and improved nutrition for at-risk children as a result of the new measures.
