Brainspotting Help Offers Free Crisis Therapy After Graz Shooting

Brainspotting Help, a voluntary organisation, provides rapid emotional support to people affected by crises. Their services are in high demand worldwide, from war zones to disaster areas. After the recent mass shooting in Graz, therapists quickly offered free crisis intervention sessions to those in need. Monika Baumann, a Vienna-based psychologist, recognised the need for immediate action following the Graz shooting. She and her colleagues at Brainspotting Help set up free online sessions within hours to assist survivors.

The group was founded to help individuals devastated by war, displacement, or loss. Their work extends to global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and disasters in the Middle East. Requests for support now come frequently from the Arab world, regardless of cultural or religious background.

Baumann also organised a Brainspotting webinar on crisis intervention after a request from her Polish colleague, Monika Gos. Over 350 professionals from many countries attended the session, pledging to offer free Brainspotting support. The method itself helps people process trauma by focusing on gaze direction, bodily awareness, and a therapist’s guidance.

Brainspotting Help relies mainly on donations and team-organised webinars to sustain their efforts. The organisation continues to respond to crises with speed and dedication. Their free sessions and training programmes ensure that support remains accessible to those in distress. Donations and professional involvement keep their vital work going.
