Philippines Builds Southeast Asia's Largest Hemodialysis Center by 2028

Construction of a new 13-story hemodialysis centre at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) is underway. The facility aims to become the largest dialysis centre in Southeast Asia once completed. It will offer advanced care for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The first phase of the project, up to the fourth floor, was finished on 26 July 2025. By 24 June 2026, the second phase, covering the fifth and sixth floors, was 70.5 percent complete. The full building is expected to be ready by March 2028, with operations starting early that year.

The centre will include 200 state-of-the-art hemodialysis machines. It will provide comprehensive services for CKD patients, addressing a critical healthcare need. Currently, there are 904 dialysis centres across the country.

PhilHealth has also expanded its benefits for dialysis patients. The allowable number of sessions has increased from 90 to 150 annually. Additionally, the benefit package for both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis has been raised. The new NKTI facility will significantly boost dialysis capacity in the Philippines. With its advanced equipment and expanded services, it is set to improve access to treatment for CKD patients. The centre’s completion will align with PhilHealth’s enhanced coverage, offering greater support to those in need.
