Magadan plants 50 trees to honour fallen defenders in unity campaign

A tree-planting event took place in Magadan as part of the international Garden of Memory campaign. Local officials, volunteers, and students gathered to honour fallen defenders of the homeland by planting 50 saplings. The initiative forms part of Russia’s Year of National Unity events this year. The Garden of Memory campaign was launched in 2020 on the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Since then, nearly 1,000 trees have been planted across the Magadan region. Organised by the Memory Garden nonprofit, the Victory Volunteers movement, and the Memory of the Victory Commanders Foundation, the effort has seen millions of volunteers from 83 countries plant over 160 million trees worldwide.

In Magadan, fifty birch and Stalingrad poplar saplings were planted at the Presidential Regional Sports Center. Victoria Golubleva, Deputy Speaker of the Magadan Regional Duma, oversaw the event. Maxim Malakhov, a regional lawmaker, coordinated the Clean Country environmental initiative as part of the day’s activities. The campaign continues to unite officials, volunteers, and students in a shared act of remembrance. The newly planted trees in Magadan add to the growing legacy of the Garden of Memory. Organisers aim to expand the initiative further under the Year of National Unity programme.
