Gifhorn's Addiction Awareness Day offers support and sobering experiences

The Addiction Services Task Force will hold an information day on July 1, 2023, as part of Alcohol Awareness Week. The event takes place at the Addiction and Drug Counseling Center in Gifhorn, located at Steinweg 10 near the market square. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to anyone affected by addiction, their families, partner organisations, and the general public. Inside the centre, visitors can watch short films about various addiction disorders. These films are designed to encourage discussions with the addiction experts present.

Outside the entrance, an information booth will offer details on support services and direct access to specialists. Attendees can also try on 'drunk goggles' to experience how alcohol impairs perception and reaction time. Alcohol-free cocktails will be served indoors to create a welcoming space for open conversations. The day aims to promote open dialogue about addiction and its impact. It provides a chance for visitors to learn, ask questions, and connect with support services in a relaxed setting.
