Alexandra Knauer Wins 2026 Pittcon Heritage Award for Scientific Leadership

Alexandra Knauer, managing partner of KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbH, has been honoured with the 2026 Pittcon Heritage Award. The prestigious prize recognises her role in advancing laboratory sciences and instrumental analytics. She joins the Pittcon Hall of Fame for her contributions to the field.

Though unable to attend the ceremony in person due to visa issues, her colleague Dr. Markus Fuchs accepted the award on her behalf. Back in Berlin, the KNAUER team marked the occasion with a celebratory breakfast hosted by company management.

The Pittcon Heritage Award is given annually to individuals who have made a lasting impact on analytical science. Knauer follows in the footsteps of her late father, Dr. Herbert Knauer, who co-founded the company in 1962 and pioneered the first modular HPLC system in 1974.

Under her leadership, KNAUER has grown from a specialist in analytical instruments into a broad life sciences technology provider. The firm now develops systems for FPLC, lipid nanoparticle production, and preparative HPLC alongside its core offerings. Recent achievements include a new 3-in-1 liquid chromatography detector and a soon-to-launch modular oligonucleotide synthesizer. David A. Cole, CEO of the Science History Institute, highlighted Knauer's entrepreneurial drive, scientific innovation, and commitment to social responsibility. In her acceptance message, she dedicated the award to her father, acknowledging his foundational work in the industry.

The award underscores Knauer's influence in expanding KNAUER's technological reach while maintaining a focus on sustainability and adaptability. Her leadership has positioned the company at the forefront of life sciences instrumentation. The Pittcon recognition further cements her legacy in advancing laboratory and analytical sciences.
