Assam Hosts Advanced Training on Fortified Rice Vitamin Testing Using LC-MS/MS

A three-day technical training session took place in Assam from January 28 to 30, 2026. Organised by FSSAI, SPHL Assam, and Sciex Bangalore, the programme focused on advanced testing methods for fortified rice. Participants learned to measure Vitamin B9 and B12 using LC-MS/MS technology.

The event aimed to strengthen quality control in fortified rice production. Experts trained analysts to detect and quantify folate (B9) and Vitamin B12 in both Fortified Rice (FR) and Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK). This initiative builds on earlier efforts by FSSAI to standardise testing across India.

Since 2022, FSSAI has led similar programmes in six states: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. Over 150 food analysts have now received training in LC-MS/MS techniques. These sessions ensure that fortified rice meets national nutritional standards.

The latest Assam workshop followed the same structured approach. Participants gained hands-on experience with equipment and data analysis. The goal was to improve accuracy in detecting vitamin levels in rice samples.

The training in Assam marks another step in FSSAI's ongoing push for better food safety practices. With more analysts now skilled in LC-MS/MS methods, testing for fortified rice will become more reliable. This supports efforts to provide nutritious rice across the country.
