Bangladesh conference urges stronger research in child digestive health
The 6th international conference of the Bangladesh Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition wrapped up on Saturday in Dhaka. Held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Centre of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), the event drew over 600 participants, including medical professionals, researchers, and students from home and abroad. The opening ceremony featured prominent figures in the medical field. Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, vice-chancellor of BMU, attended as chief guest, while Professor Dr Md Atiar Rahman, dean of the faculty of paediatrics, joined as guest of honour. Professor Dr ASM Bazlul Karim, president of the society, presided over the session, with Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad and Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, both pro-vice-chancellors of BMU, present as special guests.
Throughout the conference, discussions centred on the prevention, treatment, and awareness of gastric, liver, and nutrition-related issues in children. Speakers repeatedly highlighted the urgent need for expanded research and improved medical education in paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. No updates were provided on international collaboration in this field since the society's last gathering.
The three-day event concluded with calls for stronger research efforts and better training in paediatric digestive health. Over 600 attendees, including foreign experts, took part in sessions aimed at addressing critical gaps in child nutrition and gastroenterology care.
