Bergisch Gladbach's A-Team offers hope for those battling obesity
A local support group for people affected by obesity, known as the A-Team, has been running in Bergisch Gladbach since 2022. It was created by individuals struggling with weight issues alongside the self-help coordinator at EVK Hospital. The group provides a welcoming space for sharing experiences and finding practical solutions together.
The A-Team meets every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at EVK Hospital on Ferrenbergstraße 24. Sessions take place on the first floor of the yellow building, with a free meeting room provided by the hospital. Each gathering starts with introductions and closes with members reflecting on three key questions.
The group focuses on tackling obesity through shared stories, better nutrition, and increased physical activity. Members discuss common causes such as poor diets, emotional eating, medical conditions, and genetic factors. Beyond conversations, the A-Team plans to introduce more lectures based on what participants want to learn.
First-time visitors are asked to register beforehand by emailing [email protected] or calling 02202/122-3132. The initiative works closely with the EVK Hospital's Self-Help Contact Center and Obesity Germany, ensuring access to expert advice and wider networks. Currently, it remains the only obesity-focused self-help group listed in the Rhein-Berg-Kreis region.
The A-Team continues to grow as a supportive community for those dealing with obesity. Meetings offer a judgment-free environment where members can exchange ideas and explore healthier lifestyles. With structured sessions and expert backing, the group aims to expand its resources and reach in the coming months.
