Bhiwandi's IGM Hospital exposed: Power cuts, stalled projects, and patient risks

A surprise visit by MP Suresh Mhatre to IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi revealed shocking conditions. The facility was operating in total darkness due to a power outage, leaving patients—including those in the ICU—without electricity in extreme heat. The inspection also uncovered delays and mismanagement in ongoing construction projects.

During the unannounced visit, Mhatre found the hospital plunged into darkness after a power failure. Despite having a backup generator, it remained non-functional, forcing patients and staff to endure sweltering conditions. The situation raised serious concerns, particularly for critical care units where stable power is essential.

The MP then reviewed the construction of a new 'Mother and Child Care Hospital' on the premises. Officials had previously reported the project as 60% complete, but Mhatre discovered the actual progress stood at just 50%. He also questioned why the contractor had missed the agreed deadline, hinting at potential irregularities in the project’s execution. This isn’t the first time IGM Hospital has faced scrutiny. Past reports highlight poor patient amenities, administrative failures, and accusations of medical negligence. The latest incident has further alarmed Bhiwandi residents, who rely heavily on the hospital for affordable treatment. Following the inspection, MP Balya Mama criticised the administration sharply. He warned of severe action against those responsible for the lapses and announced plans to escalate the issue to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister.

The inspection has exposed critical failures in both infrastructure and patient care at IGM Hospital. With the MP set to raise the matter at the highest level, officials may soon face accountability for the delays and mismanagement. Residents continue to demand urgent improvements to the city’s primary healthcare facility.
