A newly renovated teachub kitchen has opened at Diesterwegstraße Primary School in Braunschweig. The 'Plietsche Children's Kitchen' project, funded by the Kroschke Children's Foundation, aims to teach children about healthy eating and cooking skills. Lord Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum officially inaugurated the space as part of an experimental learning programme.
The €120,000 renovation transformed an existing area into a flexible teachub kitchen. Mobile workstations and tables allow the space to adapt for cooking, dining, and educational experiments. The Kroschke Children's Foundation led the project with support from Diakonie Braunschweig.
The programme will run twice a year, with two weekly sessions starting in the new school year. Each class begins with a welcome circle to discuss recipes and where ingredients come from. Children then take part in hands-on cooking and interactive learning.
Funding for the initiative extends beyond this school. The foundation has secured €145,000 over five years from donors like the Eckensberger Foundation, PSD Bank, and the Rotary Club of Braunschweig. Plans are underway to expand the 'Plietsche Children's Kitchen' to more schools across Braunschweig and the surrounding region.
The new teachub kitchen provides a dedicated space for children to learn practical food skills. With a structured programme and long-term funding, the initiative will continue to grow. More schools in the area may soon benefit from similar teachub kitchens.
