Charlottenburg Palace Launches Sensory Tours for Dementia Visitors
Guided Tours for Dementia Patients at Schloss Charlottenburg - Charlottenburg Palace Launches Sensory Tours for Dementia Visitors
Charlottenburg Palace has introduced special sensory tours for visitors with dementia, offering a unique experience. These guided visits, led by an actress, focus on selected rooms and gardens, engaging multiple senses including sight, hearing, touch, and smell. Each session lasts 60 minutes and includes interactive activities like trying a fan dance. The programme is run in partnership with the Malteser aid organisation and will take place on four dates this year, including April 14, May 19, September 22, and November 3. Malteser also organises similar sensory tours at other Berlin locations such as Britz Garden, Berlin Zoo, and the Natural History Museum. The initiative aims to provide an accessible and engaging way for people with dementia to explore cultural landmarks, with each tour carefully structured to create a stimulating yet comfortable environment for participants. The sensory tours at Charlottenburg Palace offer a tailored experience for visitors with dementia, with four dates planned for 2026, ensuring the programme continues to expand cultural access. Malteser's involvement ensures the tours remain inclusive and well-supported.
