Court orders free medication for girl with immune disorder after wrongful denial
A five-year-old girl with an immune disorder in Transbaikal was wrongly denied free prescriptions for life-saving medication. After legal action by prosecutors, she now receives all necessary treatments as prescribed. Her mother, who initially covered the costs herself, has since been reimbursed in full. The case began when the child's family discovered that her essential medication was no longer provided at no cost. Forced to buy the drugs out of pocket, the mother spent around 120,000 rubles before seeking help.
Prosecutors stepped in, filing a lawsuit against the regional Health Ministry. The court ruled in their favour, ordering officials to restore the girl's right to free medication. Following the decision, the ministry complied, ensuring she now gets all prescribed treatments. A similar incident occurred in Chita, where another disabled child faced the same denial of vital drugs. Meanwhile, in Akshinsky District, prosecutorial intervention secured the necessary medication for a third child. No public records confirm how many other disabled children in the region received support for the same issue in 2023 or 2024.
The girl's family has been fully compensated for their expenses. With the court's ruling enforced, she continues to receive her medication without further delays. The case highlights ongoing efforts by prosecutors to uphold the rights of disabled children to free medical care in the region.
