Dhaka launches emergency dengue cleanup in 536 schools before monsoon

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched an urgent cleanliness and mosquito control drive across 536 schools, colleges, and madrasas. The campaign aims to stop dengue outbreaks as students return after the extended Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The initiative comes after warnings about rising Aedes mosquito activity in buildings and courtyards left unattended during the break. Officials have set a strict three-day deadline to clear all 536 educational institutions under DNCC's jurisdiction.

Teams will eliminate potential breeding sites and apply larvicides to kill mosquito larvae. Adult mosquito extermination will also take place inside and around school premises. Alongside these measures, students will receive guidance on identifying Aedes mosquitoes and preventing dengue transmission. DNCC's administrator highlighted the need for swift action before the monsoon season, when dengue risks typically surge. The campaign aligns with broader efforts to create a cleaner, mosquito-free city environment.

The drive targets all possible mosquito breeding grounds in schools and colleges before classes resume. By combining cleanup, chemical treatments, and student education, authorities hope to reduce dengue cases among young people. The work is expected to finish within the next three days.
