The report also highlights how indirect effects—like missed workdays and reduced efficiency—add to the economic damage. These hidden costs often go unnoticed but deepen the financial strain on societies.

Yet, the study points to solutions. Early prevention and intervention could cut long-term costs significantly. At the same time, new technology—such as digital health tools and AI-powered diagnostics—offers ways to improve care and reduce expenses. Without action, the economic burden of diabetes will keep climbing. The study’s projections show trillions in losses by 2050, affecting nearly every country. However, better prevention, early treatment, and tech-driven care could lessen the impact—if implemented widely.
