Digital Tools Revolutionize Nutrition and Hydration in Care Homes

A new research project at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg is working to improve nutrition and hydration in care homes. Led by Professor Martina Hasseler, the NUTRI-SENSE initiative aims to develop digital tools that support tailored care for residents with diverse needs.

The project focuses on enhancing food and fluid intake by addressing the social and cultural preferences of care home residents. Digital solutions will be designed to help nursing professionals and care staff deliver more personalised support.

Researchers are now recruiting participants for interviews, including nursing professionals, care assistants, managers, family members, and residents. Their input will shape tools that promote culturally sensitive and diversity-aware care in facilities.

Professor Hasseler highlights the importance of individualised nutrition and hydration measures. Better support in these areas could help maintain residents' health and reduce long-term care needs.

The NUTRI-SENSE project will create digital resources to assist care staff in meeting residents' dietary requirements. By involving a wide range of participants, the study aims to ensure practical and inclusive solutions for care homes.
