Doctors Remove Record-Breaking 2kg Uterine Fibroid in Rare Laparoscopic Surgery
A woman suffering from severe lower abdominal pain has undergone a rare and complex surgery at the Perinatal Center in Novorossiysk. Doctors successfully removed an unusually large uterine fibroid using advanced laparoscopic techniques. The procedure, completed without complications, brought rapid relief to the patient.
The patient was admitted to the centre's gynaecology department after enduring prolonged pain. Instead of seeking immediate help, she had relied on painkillers, hoping the issue would disappear. By the time she arrived, her condition had worsened, posing risks to her reproductive health.
An examination uncovered a massive tumour: a uterine fibroid measuring 25 centimetres and weighing nearly two kilograms. Such cases are extremely rare, with few documented instances of successful laparoscopic removals for fibroids of this size. Worldwide, only isolated reports exist, and no comprehensive records for Russia are publicly available.
The surgical team proceeded with a minimally invasive approach, avoiding traditional open surgery. The operation was carried out swiftly and without complications. Within hours, the patient experienced significant pain relief and began her recovery.
The successful removal of the fibroid highlights the centre's expertise in handling complex gynaecological cases. While large-scale data on similar procedures in Russia remains scarce, this case adds to the limited global record of such surgeries. The patient is now recovering well, with her long-term health prospects improved.
