Ecumenical Leaders Witness Cuba's Resilience During Historic Visit

An international ecumenical delegation visited Cuba from March 28 to March 31, 2023. Led by the Rev. Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, the group aimed to observe and understand the country's reality firsthand. During their four-day stay, the delegates met with local communities and attended Holy Week celebrations. They were struck by the resilience of the Cuban people and the hope they found in faith communities.

On March 31, the group held a press conference at the International Press Center in Havana. There, they confirmed that their visit had achieved its purpose: seeing the Cuban reality with their own eyes. Before leaving, the delegation announced plans to share their experiences and findings. They will report back to churches and international organisations upon returning to their home countries.

The visit provided the delegates with direct insights into Cuba's social and spiritual landscape. Their observations will now be shared globally, offering a clearer picture of the island's current conditions.
