Strategic Biofuels has chosen Emerson to automate its groundbreaking $2-billion Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project in Caldwell Parish. The facility will be the first of its kind in the US, combining biomass power generation with carbon capture and storage. Once operational, it will produce 100 megawatts of clean electricity while permanently storing 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂ each year. The LGF project will turn 1.3 million tons of forestry waste into renewable baseload power annually. This electricity will feed into Louisiana's grid, helping the state move toward carbon-neutral energy production. The facility's carbon capture system will lock away emissions deep underground in secure geological formations.

Emerson will provide its DeltaV automation platform alongside a full range of advanced technologies for the project. These include Rosemount smart sensors, control and isolation valves, pressure protection devices, and flow measurement solutions from Micro Motion and Flexim. AspenTech data management software will also support operations, ensuring precise monitoring and efficiency. Paul Schubert, CEO of Strategic Biofuels, highlighted Emerson's experience in biomass plants and carbon capture as key to the partnership. Mike Train, Emerson's chief sustainability officer, added that the company's automation and CCS expertise would play a vital role in the project's success.

The LGF facility marks a significant step in Louisiana's push for low-carbon energy. By converting forestry residuals into power and capturing emissions, it sets a new standard for sustainable biomass projects. Emerson's technology and support will underpin the plant's operations when it becomes fully functional.
