Food Industry Leaders Gather to Redesign Front-of-Pack Labels for Healthier Choices
A workshop on front-of-pack food labelling will take place on 8 May 2025 in Makati City. Hosted by Mondelēz International and another company, the event aims to improve how nutritional information is displayed. Stakeholders will gather at Odd Cafe to discuss clearer labelling solutions for consumers. Front-of-pack labels appear on food packaging to give shoppers quick nutritional insights. They help compare similar products, save time, and support healthier choices. Three main types exist: GDA, Nutri-Grade (or Nutri-Score), and Warning Labels.
GDA labels list calories, sugars, fats, saturated fats, and salt per serving. They also show how much each contributes to daily intake. Nutri-Grade and Nutri-Score use letters or colours to rank overall nutritional quality. Warning Labels, meanwhile, feature black stop signs or symbols to highlight high levels of sugar, salt, or fat.
The 'Think Tank for Effective Front-of-Pack Labels' workshop will bring together experts to refine these concepts. Each label type has unique strengths, but all aim to simplify decision-making for consumers. The workshop seeks to create more effective labelling systems. Clearer front-of-pack information could help people manage their diets more easily. The event’s outcomes may influence future food packaging standards.
