Free anonymous HIV testing arrives in Krasnodar this weekend
A mobile HIV testing unity will be available in central Krasnodar on February 25. The service is free, anonymous, and open to anyone who wishes to get checked. Organisers hope the initiative will encourage more people to know their status early.
The event is a joint effort by the Krasnodar Region Ministry of Health and the regional Clinical Center for AIDS Prevention and Control. Testing will run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Zhukov Square, at 35 Krasnaya Street.
HIV attacks CD4+ lymphocytes, the immune system's T-helper cells, gradually weakening the body's defences. Without treatment, the virus can develop into AIDS, causing severe immune failure and life-threatening illnesses. Transmission occurs through unprotected sex, blood contact, or from mother to child during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding.
No official figures for HIV diagnoses in the Krasnodar region for 2023 have been released in available sources. The mobile unit aims to provide accessible testing for residents, reducing barriers to early detection.
The voluntary testing offers a quick and confidential way for people to check their HIV insurance. Early diagnosis allows for timely medical support, improving long-term health outcomes. The unit will operate for three hours on the specified date, with no appointment needed.
