Free Thuringia events offer legal and practical support for family caregivers

AOK PLUS is organising two free events in Bad Salzungen as part of Thuringia’s Family Caregivers Week. Both sessions aim to support those who look after relatives at home. One will focus on legal preparation, while the other offers practical advice and networking for carers. The first event, Care Café, takes place on June 2, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the AOK PLUS Bad Salzungen branch. It provides family caregivers with useful tips, resources, and a chance to meet others in similar situations. The session highlights the essential role carers play in enabling home-based care.

Two days later, on June 4, 2026, the same location will host *Planning Ahead—the Right Way*. This event covers advance directives and powers of attorney. Attendees can even have a power of attorney notarized on site. Ilona Wojnowski, an AOK PLUS board member, has stressed the need to support carers’ own health and wellbeing. Her comments come as figures show that, by the end of 2025, 109,299 AOK PLUS-insured people in Thuringia required care. Of those, 95,631 were receiving support at home.

Both events are free and open to anyone involved in caring for family members. The sessions provide legal guidance, practical help, and a space for carers to share experiences. Organisers hope the initiatives will ease some of the pressures faced by those managing home-based care.
