Grisha the swan finds hope after frostbite and a life-changing rescue

A wounded swan named Grisha has found a new home after a difficult winter. Rescued with frostbitten legs and wings, he was taken in by Liubou Iosifauna and her family last December. Since then, he has recovered under the care of a dedicated veterinarian and now shares a yard with four other swans. Grisha's troubles began when he was discovered in Zhlobin with severe frostbite to his legs and wings. Unable to fly, he was brought to Liubou Iosifauna's home on December 29, 2025. Veterinarian Ryhor Bialiahou performed surgery and nursed the bird back to health over the following months.

At first, Grisha and the other swans struggled to settle into their new surroundings. Over time, they adapted to the family's yard, where they now live alongside Glafira, Nyusha, Vanyusha, and one more swan. While Nyusha and Vanyusha have damaged feathers, they remain healthy enough to potentially return to the wild. Glafira, however, may find it hard to leave the family if separated. Liubou Iosifauna ensures the swans are well-fed with a diet of oats, barley, wheat, mixed grain, and vegetables. Grisha's injured wing means he cannot fly, so he may continue to rely on Glafira for support in the future.

Grisha now lives among five swans in a safe environment. His recovery and the family's care have given him a stable home, though his inability to fly remains a challenge. The other swans, too, have adjusted—some with the possibility of eventually returning to the wild.
