I-580 shuts down in Livermore after crisis on overpass

A major traffic disruption hit Interstate 580 in Livermore on Friday afternoon. Both directions of the motorway were shut down after police responded to a person in crisis on an overpass. The closure caused long delays during the busy weekend getaway rush. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) first closed the eastbound lanes at Highway 84/Isabel Avenue just after 2 p.m. By 2:35 p.m., all lanes in both directions had been blocked due to the ongoing incident.

Drivers were urged to take alternate routes, including State Route 84 into Livermore or staying on Interstate 680 before connecting to Highway 4. By 4 p.m., eastbound traffic was backed up past Dublin and Pleasanton, reaching as far as Rowell Ranch.

The situation was peacefully resolved, and all lanes reopened by 3:52 p.m. The CHP did not report any injuries or further disruptions. The closure lasted just over an hour and a half, easing congestion once lanes were cleared. Motorists who had been stuck in heavy traffic were able to resume their journeys. Authorities confirmed no further incidents occurred after the reopening.
