Ireland funds €900K expansion of Southeast Asia's breastfeeding nutrition program
The Government of Ireland has announced a €900,000 grant to expand a nutrition program across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. This funding boosts an ongoing initiative that has already reached 140 hospitals and health facilities in the region. The project focuses on improving infant and young child nutrition through better breastfeeding practices.
The program has been running since 2017, with Ireland contributing a total of €7.8 million so far. It operates at both local and national levels in all three countries, aiming to create 'excellent breastfeeding hospitals' and establish breast milk banks.
Vietnam's successful 'Centre of Excellence for Breastfeeding' model will now guide health officials in Cambodia and Laos. By sharing expertise, the program seeks to strengthen regional collaboration and raise nutrition standards for young children.
The latest grant will help expand the initiative's reach in Southeast Asia. More hospitals and health workers will receive training in breastfeeding best practices. The long-term goal is to improve child health outcomes across the region.
