Kuban boosts newborn and maternal care with 400+ new medical devices

The Kuban region has strengthened its medical support for mothers and newborns under the national Family project. In 2025, over 400 new medical devices were installed in local perinatal centres and women's clinics. These upgrades aim to improve care for children and expectant mothers across the region. Last year, more than 50,000 newborns in Kuban underwent neonatal screening. The procedure involves collecting blood samples from babies on their second day of life. Out of these, 67 cases of disease were identified through early detection.

When test results raise concerns, samples are sent to the N.P. Bochkov Medical Genetic Research Center in Moscow. There, specialists confirm diagnoses and recommend further steps. Children found with conditions then receive free medications and support from the Circle of Kindness Foundation, a charity established by the Russian President. The newly installed equipment includes ventilators, expert-level ultrasound machines, resuscitation tables, and neonatal transport devices. These tools help medical staff provide better emergency and routine care. For 2026, the region plans to add over 90 more units to three perinatal centres, expanding their capabilities further.

The Family project continues to enhance healthcare for young families in Kuban. With expanded screening and modern equipment, early disease detection and treatment have become more effective. The ongoing upgrades will support even more newborns and mothers in the coming year.
