Legendary epidemiologist Nattela Tkavadze celebrates 85 years of life and service

Nattela Tkavadze, a respected epidemiologist in Magadan Oblast, marked her 85th birthday on May 8. Her career spans over 50 years in the region’s healthcare system, earning her widespread recognition for dedication and expertise. Born in Novorossiysk in 1941, Tkavadze graduated from Rostov State Medical University before moving to Kolyma. Since then, she has worked tirelessly in public health, currently serving at the Magadan Regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Over the decades, she has received multiple honours, including Excellence in Healthcare, Veteran of Labor, and Honored Worker of Russia’s State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. Beyond her professional achievements, she has guided and mentored younger physicians, shaping the region’s medical workforce. Dmitry Shapovalov, a member of the Kolyma Regional Parliament, presented Tkavadze with a commemorative address from Anatoly Shirokov, Chairman of the Magadan Oblast Duma. The message highlighted her lasting impact on the well-being of local residents. Shapovalov also delivered a gift from the regional legislature on behalf of colleagues. Dmitry Borovikov, chief physician of the regional hygiene centre, joined in celebrating her milestone. His remarks underscored her enduring influence on public health in the area.

Tkavadze’s birthday was marked by tributes from colleagues and officials. Her decades of service have left a clear mark on Magadan Oblast’s healthcare. The region continues to benefit from her experience and leadership.
