Maharashtra Govt To Launch 27 New Cancer Day-Care Units To Expand Affordable Treatment Access

Maharashtra boosts cancer care with 27 new day-care treatment units

Maharashtra is expanding its cancer care services with 27 new day-care treatment units. These additions come as the state faces a rising number of cancer cases. Over three crore citizens have already undergone screening through government-led campaigns. The state currently runs nine cancer day-care centres offering chemotherapy and other essential treatments. Now, 27 more units will be added to improve access across districts. This expansion aims to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for care.

The government is also strengthening early detection efforts. Mobile cancer diagnostic vans are being used in screening drives. Additionally, an HPV vaccination programme has been launched for girls aged 14 to 15 to prevent cervical cancer.

Advanced treatment options are being introduced as well. The Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana package will now cover radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and PET scans. During a recent meeting, experts from a South Korean organisation demonstrated 'liquid biopsy' technology, which helps detect cancer earlier and more accurately. The new facilities and screening programmes address Maharashtra’s growing cancer burden. Patients will now have better access to diagnosis and treatment within their own districts. The government’s push for early detection and advanced therapies aims to improve survival rates across the state.
