Maharashtra HSC results clash with NEET, sparking student stress concerns

The Maharashtra Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results were announced on Saturday, just days before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Student groups and parents have raised concerns over the tight schedule, warning of increased stress on examinees. This year, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) brought forward the result declaration to speed up admissions. Officials claimed the move would give students extra time to prepare for other exams. Yet, the timing clashed with NEET, sparking criticism.

Anubha Shrivastav Sahai, president of the India-wide Parents Teachers Association, highlighted the issue. She noted that student representatives had formally asked the board to postpone the results. Their request was ignored, and the schedule remained unchanged. The Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) in Mumbai also spoke out. They argued that overlapping exam dates create unnecessary mental strain. The group called for a more student-focused approach in planning future assessments. Sahai pointed to a wider problem: poor coordination between central and state exam bodies. She urged authorities to take proactive steps, ensuring better alignment of major tests in the coming years.

Despite calls for a delay, the HSC results were published as planned. The back-to-back scheduling with NEET has left students and parents worried about mental health impacts. Future adjustments in exam timelines may now be under review.
