Mexico and Canada unite to advance aerospace innovation and research

Mexico and Canada have signed a new agreement to boost cooperation in aerospace science and technology. The deal was finalised during a trade mission led by Mexico’s Economy Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón. Both nations aim to strengthen research, innovation, and talent development in the sector. The agreement focuses on building a binational network of specialists to drive technological advances across the aerospace industry. It will speed up the transition from laboratory research to real-world industrial applications with economic benefits.

Key programs from Mitacs, including the Globalink Research Award and the Accelerate initiative, will play a central role. These will support joint training, academic exchanges, and technology transfer between universities and companies. The signing ceremony included representatives from educational institutions in both countries. Mexico’s National Association of Universities (ANUIES), the National Polytechnic Institute (TecNM), and Mitacs formalised the partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding. The alliance will also encourage researcher mobility and deeper collaboration between academia and industry.

The deal establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in aerospace research and innovation. By combining expertise from both nations, the partnership aims to create practical solutions and economic opportunities. Joint training programs and technology transfers are expected to begin in the near future.
