Nizhny Novgorod Tops Russia's School Meal Quality Rankings With 4.3/5 Score

The Nizhny Novgorod Region has ranked first in Russia for school meal quality, scoring 4.3 out of 5 in student satisfaction. This recognition comes as part of a nationwide push to improve nutrition and health education in schools. Over 223,000 pupils from 5,800 schools across 88 regions recently took part in the Healthy Olympics competition.

The Healthy Olympics saw schools compete in nutrition and wellness initiatives. School No. 3 in Dzerzhinsk claimed the top prize of 1 million rubles after achieving the best results. The event also led to the opening of a nutrition education center at a local school in Dzerzhinsk.

While Nizhny Novgorod led the rankings, the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania and Sakhalin Region also featured in the top five for meal satisfaction. However, national reports from Rosobrnadzor still highlight ongoing concerns. Issues like nutritional deficiencies and sanitation problems persist in schools across Russia, though no specific trends for Nizhny Novgorod over the past five years are publicly available.

The Healthy Olympics engaged thousands of students in health-focused activities. Nizhny Novgorod's high satisfaction score reflects its current standing in school meal quality. Yet broader challenges in nutrition and hygiene remain a focus for improvement nationwide.
