North Kazakhstan's eco-quiz sparks youth passion for sustainability

An interactive eco-quiz has taken place in North Kazakhstan Region, continuing a growing tradition of environmental events. Organised by Almagul Zabbas, the competition aimed to engage young participants in discussions about ecology, sustainability, and urban cleanliness through a lively quiz format. The event began with a first round focused on ecology and sustainability. Questions covered topics like legally required waste disposal standards, testing both knowledge and practical understanding. The organisers chose this approach to make pressing environmental issues more engaging for students.

In the second round, teams faced a rapid-fire brainstorming challenge. Participants had to define environmental terms and concepts quickly, adding an element of excitement. Judges assessed not just accuracy but also how well teams worked together, emphasising collaboration over individual performance. Madi Kaliyev, one of the student participants, described the experience as informative and meaningful. He noted that it broadened his understanding of environmental issues. At the end, all attendees received certificates, small rewards, and eco-friendly treats, while the top three teams earned special diplomas. Zabbas, the organiser, highlighted the event's focus on youth engagement. Rather than passive learning, the quiz encouraged hands-on participation to develop critical thinking and teamwork skills.

The quiz reinforced North Kazakhstan Region's commitment to ecological literacy. By blending education with interactive challenges, it provided students with practical knowledge and a sense of involvement. Future events are expected to build on this approach, further promoting environmental awareness among young people.
