Omsk Oblast smashes 83-year rainfall record in April 2026 downpours
Omsk Oblast experienced record-breaking rainfall in April 2026, shattering an 83-year-old weather milestone. Meteorologists confirmed the new high after tracking unusually heavy downpours across the region. The Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorological Service recorded a new single-day precipitation record on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Omsk received 19 millimetres of rain in just 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 18.4 millimetres set on the same date in 1943.
Most of the rain fell in the final ten days of April. Across the oblast, districts saw between 80% and 193% of their typical April rainfall totals. The new record marks the first time in over eight decades that Omsk’s daily rainfall total has exceeded 18.4 millimetres. Officials noted that the late-April downpours significantly boosted monthly precipitation levels across the region.
