Queen Silvia's Flensburg Visit Spotlights Dementia Care and Child Protection

The Royal Sussex County Hospital, a large building with windows and text, is surrounded by a metal fence, cars on the road, people under a roof, a signboard, a street pole, a tree, wires, and flags on poles, under a cloudy sky.

Swedish Queen Visits Clinic Named After Her - Queen Silvia's Flensburg Visit Spotlights Dementia Care and Child Protection

Queen Silvia of Sweden will spend two days in Flensburg this week. The visit will focus on facilities linked to her long-standing charitable work. Her schedule includes stops at a dementia care unit and a centre supporting abused children.

On the first day, the queen will tour the Queen Silvia Unit at St. Francis Hospital. This specialised ward cares for dementia patients needing acute medical treatment. She will also give a speech during her visit.

The unit reflects her decades of advocacy for dementia care. In 1996, she founded the Silviahemmet Foundation to improve life for those living with the condition. Her efforts later expanded to include the World Dementia Council in 2013 and multiple research centres.

The following day, she will visit the Childhood House run by Pro Familia. Opened in 2022, the centre provides a safe space for young people who have suffered physical or sexual abuse. The facility receives support from the World Childhood Foundation, another organisation established by the queen.

Her charitable work spans over 20 years, covering dementia care, child protection, and partnerships with UNICEF. Many of these initiatives operate globally, though exact numbers remain undocumented in a single source.

The trip highlights Queen Silvia's ongoing commitment to vulnerable groups. Her visit will draw attention to specialised care for dementia patients and abused children. Both facilities continue to benefit from her long-term support and advocacy.
