Russia's Winter Diet Guide: Citrus, Avocados and Persimmons for Immunity

Russia's consumer health watchdog has issued its latest winter nutrition advice. The recommendations focus on seasonal foods that boost immunity and energy. Officials highlight familiar staples like citrus fruits, avocados and persimmons as key choices for the colder months.

Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection, has kept its winter dietary guidance largely unchanged since 2021. The watchdog continues to stress foods rich in vitamin C, proteins and warming drinks. This year's list again includes citrus fruits, which provide ascorbic acid along with vitamins A and E to help fight off infections.

Persimmons also feature prominently due to their high antioxidant content. These compounds offer antiviral benefits and support a healthy metabolism. Avocados remain recommended for their role in improving skin hydration, reducing dryness and aiding heart function.

The guidelines still emphasise seasonal produce with immune-boosting properties. Onions and garlic are noted for their strong antimicrobial effects, often called 'natural antibiotics'. Pumpkin is another staple, packed with pectin, vitamins C and A, and calcium to strengthen the body's defences.

The latest advice reinforces long-standing recommendations rather than introducing new policies. Officials continue to promote vitamin C-rich foods, proteins and warming beverages as simple ways to stay healthy. The focus remains on accessible, nutrient-dense options for winter resilience.
