Russian spirulina producer halted over shocking hygiene violations
A food production company in Ekaterinburg has been temporarily shut down after regulators uncovered serious hygiene breaches. Ritmiko LLC, a producer of spirulina-based supplements, was ordered to halt operations for 30 days by a local district court. The suspension follows an unannounced inspection by Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s consumer rights watchdog. Investigators found multiple violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules at Ritmiko’s facility. The company was storing, packaging, and preparing product in a single room, breaching basic hygiene standards. Inspectors also discovered raw materials without proper documentation and unmarked products in the production area. After documenting the violations, Rospotrebnadzor filed an administrative report. The court then issued an order to suspend Ritmiko’s activities for one month while corrective measures are implemented. Ritmiko specialises in growing spirulina algae and manufacturing dietary supplements in various forms. The 30-day shutdown will remain in effect unless the company resolves the identified issues. Regulators have not linked the case to any previous inspections or trade events.
